While Menai Insight retains the copyright of the textual structures found on our website and returned in the processed data, we allow subscribers to publish a limited quantity of example textual structures (e.g., for the purpose of illustrating your approach), with attributions to our copyright. Such permissions are granted in advance, within a permission license that you will receive when you subscribe.
In addition to the guidelines, subscribers may also publish results derived from processed data, as described in the academic licensing agreement.
When you subscribe to our services you will receive a permission document, granting permission to use a limited number of example textual structures within your work (e.g., for the purpose of illustrating your approach).
This is designed to provide clarity, covering typically usage situations, and allowing you to illustrate to publishers that you have permission to include the material as part of your publications. We provide the permission document in advance such that for most typical usage you need not contact us to ask for usage permission; if your expected usage falls outside of these parameters please contact support - we aim to cover all reasonable requests (e.g., if you expect to require more examples as part of a long dissertation), and can provide permission in advance of it being required by a publisher.
Usage covered under the permission guidance
If a subscriber wished to illustrate how the textual structures facilitate capturing specific dimensions of the text, including multi-word phrases, they may wish to include an example such as:
{
"ORIGINAL_SENTENCE":"Jane Doe has spent 5 years working in the automotive industry",
"BACKGROUND":{"PERSON_NAME":{"ORIGINAL":"Mr. Doe","NAME_TITLE":"MR","LAST_NAME":"DOE"},
"EXPERIENCE":[{"ORIGINAL":"worked in the automotive industry for 5 years"
"LENGTH_OF_TIME":{"ORIGINAL":"5 years","UNIT":"YEAR","QUANTITY":5},
"AREAS":{"ORIGINAL":"automotive industry","NAICS_3_DIGIT":336,
"NAICS_3_DESCRIPTION":"Transportation Equipment Manufacturing"},
"EXPERIENCE_TYPE":{"ORIGINAL":"worked","TYPE":"WORK"}
}
Our licensing policy allows subscribers to include a small number of sentences, such as that illustrated above, as part of a larger research paper, provided:
- The textual structures are included as part of a larger document (e.g., book, journal article or dissertation).
- The number of examples used across the document is 50 sentence or less.
- You attribute usage of the textual structure to Menai Insight (© Menai Insight, 2018, used with permission).
- Your usage does not include personally identifiable information: names of people or companies should be anonymized.
While the above covers typical usage, if you expect that your usage will fall outside of these examples, please contact support.
